NVCCF is a beacon of hope and a source of strength to all the incredible families and adults that we so lovingly serve. Within the 40 programs and services we provide our patients and families at no cost, one of our most impactful programs for our children is CAMP CARTWHEEL. This amazing medically supervised program spans two weeks each summer and welcomes over 200 children and 150 generous volunteers has become and set the standard for summer camps for critically ill children, their siblings, and for children whose parents are diagnosed with cancer. It is the longest running and largest camp in Nevada.
We know how important CAMP CARTWHEEL is for our children who look forward to this experience each year with such excitement. It’s great fun, but for many of our kids fighting cancer and other life-threatening illnesses it gives them hope, independence, feelings of triumph and the courage to carry on. For their siblings and for children whose parents are diagnosed with cancer, it is an eye-opening experience to see they are not alone in the daily challenges they face. The friends they see, perhaps only at camp and the relationships they create as well as the growth and self-confidence they feel is so very important.
VIRTUAL CAMP CARTWHEEL 2020
Due to the COVID-19 pandemic and consulting our most amazing and knowledgeable camp doctors and nurses, we have come to the very difficult decision that we cannot hold Camp Cartwheel physically this year at our wonderful home of Torino Ranch.
This doesn’t mean that we are done. We’re not! We’re thrilled to announce Virtual Camp Cartwheel 2020. Stay tuned for exciting announcements regarding camp packet and t-shirt pick-up. Your favorite camp activities such as camp opening, dance, arts and crafts, games and more will be scheduled and brought to life daily through social media from July 20 through July 25, 2020.
