July 20 – 24, 2021

Dear Camp Cartwheel Campers, Volunteers, and Families

It goes without saying that this past year has been both devastating and challenging for so many in our community and beyond.  While NVCCF continues to serve children diagnosed with cancer and other life-threatening illnesses, we are constantly working with families to navigate the financial and emotional effects of the pandemic.

Due to COVID-19 and the limited access to vaccines, as well as consultation with our incredible medical team, CAMP CARTWHEEL will be VIRTUAL in 2021.  However, our volunteers have been meeting since January to plan and create a very special virtual experience with more activities, more interaction, and more fun beginning July 20 through July 24, 2021.  Stay tuned for exciting announcements regarding camp packet and t-shirt pick-up and more.

While the way in which we experience Camp Cartwheel has changed again for this year, we know that wherever Camp Cartwheel is, it lives in the cherished memories of our hearts.    For the children we serve, it is a time for hope, independence, feelings of triumph and connecting with other kids who fight the same battle against disease.   For their siblings and for children whose parents are diagnosed with cancer, it is an eye-opening experience to see they are not alone in the daily challenges they face.  The friends they see, perhaps only at camp and the relationships they create as well as the growth and self-confidence they feel is so very important

Celebrating 25 years of hope, CAMP CARTWHEEL continues to be one of NVCCF’s most impactful programs.    Traditionally, this medically supervised camp spans two weeks each summer and welcomes over 200 children and 150 generous volunteers has become and set the standard for summer camps for critically ill children, their siblings, and for children whose parents are diagnosed with cancer.  It is the longest running and largest camp in Nevada and is nestled at the beautiful Torino Ranch.   We express our most sincere love and appreciation to Brett Torino and his amazing staff at the Torino Ranch who work hard to keep the ranch so beautiful in anticipation of our return.  We hope next year!

As always, we will do all that we can to ensure all our children who love Camp Cartwheel and look so forward to it each year will have a wonderful experience and know how important they are to all of us here at NVCCF, our family of the most incredible volunteers and generous donors who make Camp Cartwheel possible.

Most Sincerely,

Jeffrey R Gordon
