Vote NOW & EVERY DAY for Tammy Richardson & NVCCF

Tammy was selected as one of FOUR finalists for THE NASCAR FOUNDATION’S BETTY JANE FRANCE HUMANITARIAN AWARD PRESENTED BY NATIONWIDE. Tammy is a long-time volunteer at Nevada Childhood Cancer Foundation and Camp Cartwheel.

VOTING HAS STARTED and continues EVERY DAY through Nov. 29, 5 p.m. ET!  Tammy is one of four finalists vying for The NASCAR Foundation’s $100,000 donation to a children’s charity and Tammy is asking for your vote as she represents Nevada Childhood Cancer Foundation.

Tammy Richardson’s journey with NCCF’s Camp Cartwheel began 14 year ago.  Camp Cartwheel is a summer camp for critically ill children and their siblings; a camp that Tammy became aware of when her daughter received a devastating diagnosis.  Tammy’s daughter, Stephanie, was diagnosed with a malignant and inoperable brain tumor when she was in high school.   Tammy learned about NCCF’s Camp Cartwheel when it was offered to Stephanie’s six siblings.  During the few precious months Tammy had remaining, with her daughter, she kept her family together spending every moment with Stephanie to the end.   After Stephanie passed Tammy (Camp Name:  MOS-mom of seven), her husband Command Sergeant Major James Richardson (Camp Name: Papa J) and their six children made it their mission to honor Stephanie’s memory by attending Camp Cartwheel.  They volunteer their time to make camp hopeful for children who suffer from disease, memorable for their siblings who often experience stress and traumatic loss, and incredible for volunteers, who because of Tammy and her husband, understand the important part they play in providing courage, strength, and happiness to these children each summer.    Each year, Tammy arrives before camp begins and stays well after it has ended.  She sets up and manages the” Camp Store” where EVERYTHING IS FREE. This store is filled with blankets, toys, dolls, school supplies and more for children to SHOP…for FREE.  Tammy ensures that each child leave with their bags full along with an ice cream treat and a little something special that she sets aside for them.

Tammy IS Camp Cartwheel.  She has shared her story at numerous speaking engagements and fund-raisers.  As a parent, who has lost a child to cancer, she has a great understanding of how valuable time is for parents of diagnosed children.  Tammy has helped many parents and children through the emotional stress of fighting disease and held out her hand in friendship and support to all who walk and have walked in her shoes.  Every child, every volunteer and every visitor to Camp Cartwheel knows Tammy (MOS) and are thankful for her.
