A variety of other programs and services are
provided by the Nevada Childhood Cancer Foundation including:
Family Visits - Ongoing clinic and
hospital visitations to meet and comfort families.
Snack Attack Program - Children spend a
significant amount of their time at their outpatient clinic
getting medical treatment. They often get hungry and feel for a
healthy snack. Each week we deliver 100-150 snacks to each of the
pediatric outpatient clinics.
Pizza Day - Each month the Foundation
provides pizza for everyone in the Pediatric Hematology/Oncology
units at the hospitals. Patients, families and staff look forward
to this opportunity for fun and fellowship.
Teen Groups - The Nevada Childhood Cancer
Foundation believes in providing love, hope, and understanding to
the whole family. With this purpose in mind, “The Teen Group”
was established for patients and siblings to do special activities
and projects of service, while being with each other and helping
in areas of need. Special bonding takes place as siblings meet
other siblings with the same challenges and everyone works
together. Supervised by several NCCF Board members, this has
become a wonderful program.
Craft Days - An important part of the
Nevada Childhood Cancer Foundation's mission is our commitment to
provide a positive and fun time for our children in as many places
as we can. The child oncology clinic has special days twice each
month. Doctor visits are made fun when the staff, board members
and volunteers provide positive and fun activities for the
children.
Professional Education - Professional
education and communication with the health care community is
vital. In the field of chronic or critical care, the research and
development of new techniques in the treatment and care of
patients is always changing. In order to address these issues, the
Nevada Childhood Cancer Foundation offers workshops and in-service
seminars as an informational source targeted to nurses and other
health care professionals. These seminars provide necessary
Continuing Education Units (CEMs).
Toy Box - Each day many children undergo
difficult and painful procedures in the clinic. Many more are seen
for check-ups and other treatments. The Nevada Childhood Cancer
Foundation provides a toy box with 'special treats' in the way of
toys for each patient. After what can be some very traumatic
experiences of a treatment day, smiles are once again restored to
the faces of these children.
